my final post of the semester...

Well, this assignment is to tell my professor what my final grade in my online journalism class should be. What an interesting concept. If only I knew how to hypnotize someone with a web page....
For our class, we had a grade structure of 65% writing, 25% blogs, and 10% attendance/partcipation. This is according to our syllabus given at the start of the semester.
My writing has been ok. Our stories are published on the boro news. I submitted three stories for publication, and two of the three have been posted so far.
My first story was a basic news/feature story on Kappa Delta Sorrority and their fundraiser, War of the Wings. The story was okay, I thought it would have more impact after the tragic events of the semseter, but the women of the organization moved on, making the story more of an update.
My second story, about student teaching, was a fun one. I got to talk to some of my friends who are education majors and learn more about thier chosen career. I don't really have much to say about it other than that pictures are coming soon.
My third, which has yet to be uploaded, is on the Southern Ambassadors. These people are campus tour guides who work thier tails off.
My blogs were okay. I felt like I did a good job incorporating links to my work on this site, and I enjoyed writing about some of my topics. While I was a little under the total needed, I felt that I shined on the entries I did complete.
Partcipation. I did miss two more classes over the allowable amount, but I was sick for those days (I attended one class that week, and it was a test) This knocks my partcipation down a bit.

so, there is a description of what I did this semester in the class. I feel that through my obvious deduction of points (missing too much class and not having quite enough blogs) I am knocked down to around a 90 before grading my stories. I am not egotistical enough to assume I was perfect on these assignments, but I feel I am a good writer. Let's say that knocks me down to around an 86. Does this entry bump me back up? I sure hope so. but that decision is for Professor Carr. Do I deserve an A? Absolutely, so I can bost my GPA, feel good about myself, and feel some sort of personal accomplishment. Do I not deserve an A? Of course, because I was lazy, didn't try to be the best in the class, and my writing was not perfect.

so, what can tip the scales? I did go see your play, professor. You were good, as the leach who wanted to turn the pond into a dump. I took a Friday night to be cultured, and see something new, but it was, in fact, too Disney for me. But at least I gave it a try.

0-9 in one run games

I have almost never questioned Bobby cox, but yesterday, leaving in Acosta, was dumb. There are five other guys in the bulpen that could have been used. The braves haven't won a one run game yet...But at least Gonzo is going to be back soon. And Smoltz may also come back as a reliever for the rest of the year, making our bulpen have two reliable, proven pitchers in the 8th and 9th innings. And when we get Soriano back, we will be solid on the relief side.

The problem? Now our ace is a reliever. Maybe we can get it going, but right now it is hard to see how.

Hawks provide a good wake up?

I saw this on SI today. It is nice to say that the Hawks are going to teach the Celtics a lesson about playing hard, but this is still the playoffs. Sometimes teams win a game or two. If the number 8 seed was going to get swept every time, then the number one seed would just get a bye. I definately look foreward to watching the Hawks try to pull an upset tonight in game 5.

Also, the Mavs and the Suns were eliminated last night, and their blockbuster trades didn't exactly work out for them. Its funny. Just because one team got new players doesn't mean that you need to revamp your roster too. Someone needs to get better thinking skills.

With gas prices soaring to amazingly high levels, I saw this on my local newspaper's website and thought it was pretty cool. I have a pickup truck, so I really have been feeling the pinch on the wallet from this gas price hike.

Falcons pull another upset win...i mean the Hawks

So my roomates and I watched the Hawks play game four of thier series. my roomate kept calling them the falcons. Shows you how much people actually watch basketball here in GA. But the Hawks did prevail. Its exciting in a way, the NBA playoffs being relevant in your town and having people actually show up for games. I expected sparse crowds at the two games in Atlanta, but the article I linked to said the arena was actually intimidating. YAY Atlanta! Maybe now my Braves can pull off some wins and get a little better as well.

sad things happen

One of my high school friend's dad passed last week. I found out about his death Saturday when I went home. My parents didn't find out until Friday morning. The funeral was Friday afternoon. That really sucks. I wish I could have been there for him. but life does go on.

PA primary

well, Hilary won by 10...Good for her...Great for the GOP...the Dems will keep fighting all the way to the convention, and I can laugh at them too.McCain might not even face either Hillary or Barack in the general election if it goes to convention. Even the superdegates aren't going to try to break this deadlock.

3,000

Fist off, our offense sucks...start h8ittingthe ball with men on base already!

We lose to Washington 6-0 and then Florida 7-2? The braves need to learn to hit with runners on base. We also need to bat more righties against left handed pitching...half of our lineup is lefties or switch hitters, which equals a disaster against south paws...I'm so mad about the Braves right now I can't even post more...

win streak

Well, the Braves are on their longest winning streak of the short season: five games! The shocking thing is that this streak is the longest of the season both this year and last year...which may be a reason we didn't make the playoffs last year. The biggest part about this was also highlighted by Dave O'Brien at the AJC: the back end of the rotation won three in a row. this only happened once last season, and that didn't happen until September. Some out there may think, who cares? If the back three in the rotation combine for 40 or so wins (13.333 each), then we will be fine. The thing is that if we win many games in a row, confidence increases. The Braves need that swagger that comes wtih a winning team. If the back end of the rotation pitches a whole series (as it did against the Dodgers) and sweeps the team, then we have to be feeling good, knowing that our two aces are coming up next. hudson, who by the way has a 2.90 or so ERA this season, and John Smoltz (.53 ERA, which is riddiculus) can then pitch easier, and more freely, not feeling the pressure to pitch a perfect game, or at least 8 innings each outing.

I'll be posting later, both on the Braves, and the PA primary. (thank God it's going to be over. I'm tired of hearing about it.)

sports mayem

well, my intramural softball season is done after tonight, with my last Co-rec game of the season. Its been tough, playing for my men's team, Menace to Sobriety. We only won one game, and it was last night. I really love softball, and GSU is the only school in the country to keep stats for teams. I finnished 8 for 14 on the season, a fairly good year. I bet i finnish better than most of my brothers on the Fraternity Team.

Well, besides softball, there is some MLB action to talk about. I officially hate watching teams who have one year of success. All I have heard about during the Braves-Rockies series is how colorado had this imporoable run. Ok, I get it. they made the World Series against all odds. But seriously, do I need to hear about Yorvit Torrealba's clutch hits during every at-bat this season? Oh, and the Rockies are the first team to beat the Braves by more than one run this season. At least I wasn't watching the game thinking we could come back, and even if we could, the bulpen would just blow it again.

Oh, I can't even begin to talk about the Masters! As soon as I am done with this sentence, I'm going to watch the greatest golf tournament in the history of the universe...See yall later.

SGA is pointless

Man, Student Government has really fallen off at GSU. There are all of one individual running for each of the positions on the Executive Board. What democracy! SGA passed a rule this fall that in order to become a member of the executive board, you must have experience in the senate already. What a crock!

Voting for SGA has been extended a day. It doesn't really matter, there are some senate races where there are two people running, and a person can vote for both. That's not even an election! I can't begin to express the pointlessness of SGA if no one runs for it, and no one cares about it.

well, i didn't get to post about all the games over the weekend, but over all, it was great! My Braves beat the New York Mets two in a row this weekend, along with one rainout. You can see the AP recap here. John Smoltz showed he still has the stuff, pitching 5 innings of shutout ball. What was scarry, though, was his soreness in his shoulder. I hope its just his not being completely in game shape yet.

On another injury note, Captian I'm-always-hurt-and-just-deal-with-it himself, Mike Hampton, got put on the DL again with a strained pectoral. I can't even begin to say what I would like to say about this guy, as every word is a profanity.

We have Colorado tonight as we start a four-game series with the defending NL champs and a 10-game road trip. Here's a great chance to see ole Tommy G pitch for the second time this season.

about time!

well, my braves finally pulled out a win. I proably will be posting a report after most games for the next few weeks...I know, i'm obsessed with the Braves if I run to write a blog post after the games, but its my blog!

I missed most of the game, but i did get to see the offensive exposion at the end. Tex may be finally getting it, and hopefully Francour will pick up the power soon.

Jaiur is gonna be some hot S#$@ before he is done.

I'll be posting after tonight's game with the injury man himself, Mike Hampton, pitching.

some people make me feel inteligent

Sometimes, a person opens their mouth and sys something that they believe to be true, is controversial and some others likely think as well. The problem? It usually pisses off somone, or is a stupid thing to say when you are dealing with presidential candidates.

Wow! Ms. Ferraro, you officially are an idiot. Don't tell black people they got where they are because they are black. Especially when the candidate you back could have the same type of argument thrown back at her. (for two reasons: her husband and her gender, no less)

I feel better about myself sometimes when people of stature say stupid things because I know I wouldn't have said it.

Free Speech, or stupid?

This appauled me today: Kick-a-Freshman. If you can't get the link to work, search for national kick a freshman day.

Why would anyone make such an event? It's not even funny. People think that facebook is just a fun time to post anything and everything, no matter how danming to one's reputation or idiotic it might be. We've all seen people who post about getting high, or drunk. We've all seen pictures of drunken 18-year-old freshman out there for everyone in the world to see. Georgia Southern even felt it was so important that the school held a facebook seminar this semester. Here are some examples of stupid things to put on facebook:

driving?

Smoking?

Theft?

Goodness, people are stupid...but then again, it is free speech. I know you have the right as an American to put stuff like this on your page, but really, is it that cool to have this on your site? Will you fellas out there really pick up more chicks, or look more cool to your friends?

but what do you think a [potential employer will say about these things in an interview?

NBA actually exciting?

Well, the third franchise player trade that has occoured in a month has led me to a conclusion: the period between when the college football season ends and Braves Baseball begins is actually fun.

Jason Kidd joined Pau Gasol and Shaq as big names who have new addresses. The NBA, a leauge marred by troubling off-season incidents (referee gambling, the number one pick being lost for the season, etc.) has just completed a month or so of being almost as exciting as the Super Bowl. I really hope that the leauge will continue along with its great publicity: the All-Star weekend was a great success, and Dwight Howard is absolutely amazing!

Also, lets not forget that Kevin Garnett and company are dominating the leauge. The big gamble in Boston has so far been the big success. KG is my favorite basketball player, combining workman-like scoring with intesnse defense and rebounding. So I am definately looking foreward to the playoffs, and even if KG's team flames out early, I will likely still enjoy the NBA post-season-- for once!

I like Mike

Well, after Super Tuesday not much was solved for the Democrats. The Repblicans, on the other hand, seem to be leaning towards John McCain. I personally like him the least of all the Republican nominees. But that isn't what this blog is about. It is about this. Mike Huckabee, conservative baptist minister and low budget presidential canidate extrordinaire, has vowed to stay in the presidential race until McCain has enough delegates to secure the nomination.
What does this matter? It shows that a person actually has guts, and is actually trying to win, instead of settle for a close finnish where that individual can posture themselves for some personal gain next time around.
I applaud you, Mike Huckabee, for your efforts at actually running for president, and standing up for the states who normally do not get to choose who the next president will be. The establishment has made the states who have their primary later in the year virtually obsolete, a mere formality. I like this change to where a voter actually has choices even if his or her state votes in mid-April.

welcome to the blog

Well, it is my first ever post on a blog, and I'm struggling for a great first post. I don't really have any thoughts as to a general theme of the blog, but I will proably post on mostly whatever is going on that I care about.
On that note, this week is Recruitment at Georgia Southern. Being an officer on the Inter-fraternity Council, I encourage everyone to encourage any male student at GSU to go through recruitment. GO Greek!
